HYPNOBIRTHING

WHAT IS HYPNOBIRTHING?

Hypnobirthing is based on using self-hypnosis techniques as a form of preparation for pregnancy, labour and birth. It is a simple practice that is used to aid relaxation and release fear, tension and anxieties surrounding birth. This practice reconnects you with the gift of the intuitive mind, allowing your body to work effectively in labour and encouraging birth to take a natural course.

“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift, and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift”
— Albert Einstein

OUR COURSES

Our unique midwife-led hypnobirthing courses provide you with the necessary skills for practice and preparation for birth as a couple. Unlike other courses, you will receive guidance in aromatherapy, massage, birthing positions, and in working together with your birth partner - not just hypnobirthing skills. We teach in a safe environment where you can discuss your feelings openly and combat any fears or anxieties you may have around pregnancy and labour.

We aim to increase your confidence and leave you feeling fully prepared for your birth - you will acquire the knowledge and skills that will assist in making you part of the decision-making process alongside midwives and obstetricians, ultimately helping you to achieve the birth that is right for you.

Hypnobirthing courses make an excellent 'add-on' to our antenatal classes - we offer a 10% discount on the hypnobirthing course when also booking onto an antenatal course. Please contact us for further information, and to receive a discount code.

WHAT ABOUT THE BIRTH PARTNERS?

Our hypnobirthing courses are also great for birth partners (even those who may be slightly sceptical of hypnobirthing) who will be taught about the realities of birth, their role in pregnancy and labour, how they can support their partner, and how they can practice the scripts, too. The courses are a chance for you to come together - learn how to work as a team through your birth - and be part of the wider decision making process.

Previous couples that have attended our hypnobirthing courses have experienced a more positive birth, and felt empowered and happy with their birth experience - whatever route it has taken.

MEET THE MIDWIVES

Vicky is a qualified KGhypnobirthing teacher who trained with Katherine Graves - founder of KGhypnobirthing - the leading hypnobirthing provider in the UK. Emily trained with Lorraine Flaherty through Expectancy. This has taught Emily to personalise hypnosis for every couple that she works with. Both teaching courses are Royal Collage of Midwives accredited.

WHEN SHOULD I START?

The earlier you start the better - we recommend that you book your course to begin when you are around 25 weeks pregnant onwards. Don't worry if you are earlier, or later than this date - you can contact us if you have any questions.

TESTIMONIAL

We wanted to try hypnobirthing (with very basic knowledge of what it actually entailed!) but I had read about Katherine Graves hypnobirthing and saw that Vicky had trained with her and Emily with Lorraine Flaherty and both being midwives, we were assured that we would be in safe and knowledgeable hands. This is our first pregnancy and we are planning a home birth. We had a private hypnobirthing course at home, which worked really well for my husband and I with our work commitments and made the whole experience much more relaxing and intimate. I was really surprised with the level of personalisation of the course itself and feel this is a really important aspect of hypnobirthing as this addressed our respective fears/expectations of birth.
Vicky and Emily were incredibly sensitive and patient with us, understanding our very basic level of knowledge and giving us the support, information and tools we needed to continue our hypnobirthing practice throughout the rest of pregnancy. While my husband was very sceptical to start with, having completed the course and fully understanding the mind / body connection, it is now something he fully believes in and will recommend to anyone willing to listen. Although, it definitely needs tuition and frequent practice! We have found hypnobirthing a really useful tool and it is something that we do together almost daily, enabling my husband to feel involved in the pregnancy (and hopefully birth!) and it also helped to calm us after a long day at work. Just having half an hour together to forget about everything else going on has been really beneficial. I feel it is really helped me relax and sleep well throughout pregnancy and I look forward to, rather than dread, the birth. We both feel confident in having a tool to help us no matter how labour ends up as it is something that we can take anywhere. It was valuable to do this relatively early on (I was 28 weeks), which has given us the chance to practice regularly, often resulting in me drifting into a deep slumber within minutes.
We couldn’t recommend hypnobirthing with Vicky and Emily enough, with their wealth of knowledge, support and level of personalisation, it really felt very special.
