Week 1: Labour and birth.

Week 2: Coping Mechanisms: TENS, Hypnobirthing, Water Birth, Birthing Positions and Pain Relief - start WhatsApp groups.

Week 3: Different types of hospital birth including Caesarean, and the birth partner's role. Birth Stories from two previous couples.

Week 4: Baby Feeding. Breastfeeding? Bottle Feeding? Whatever is right for you.

Week 5: What to expect from the first 3 months of being new parents and exploring newborn behaviour.

Week 6: Practical skills for new parents, including swaddling, bathing, nappy changing, and slings.

Our first-time parents antenatal courses are made-up of interactive and dynamic midwife-led classes. These sessions provide honest, evidence-based, and realistic information, with course content equally split between labour and birth, and the early weeks with your new baby. This ensures that each of our couples feel confident in making informed choices. There is plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion during each course, and a fantastic opportunity to hear some first hand experiences from previous couples returning to tell their own birth-story.

Our sessions are limited to eight couples, and are held in a private space above The Lordship Pub, maintaining an intimate and relaxed atmosphere where lasting friendships are formed. We facilitate the creation of WhatsApp groups, and encourage regular meet-ups during and after the course, all of which helps to develop that all-important early support network.

Each couple will recieve our tailor made 60 page handbook. It supports all the information you discuss in the course, and signposts you to reliable sourcs of information to expand your knowledge in any particular topic. The handbook offers a quick look guide to steer you through your birth, a detailed view of what to expect for the first 3 months, and our midwife tips about the practical baby skills and feeding.

You will also recieve unlimited email support from midwife Vicky and the Team.

"We have learned so much in such a lovely environment...massive thank you"  Charlotte & Gregg

"Vicky was amazing - great balance of knowledge, experience, pragmatism and most importantly empathy and realism! Always so approachable, friendly, compassionate, we felt very lucky to have her lead the group!" Janani

MEET YOUR MIDWIVES

Meet Nathalie - who the groups at The Lordship True to her south London roots, Nathalie loves working and caring for families in the community that she grew up in. Having been a caseloading midwife for nearly a decade she has been privileged enough to support many couples throughout their pregnancies, labours and the first weeks of parenthood. Her ability to use her midwifery and hypnobirthing skills to support friends and family throughout this journey has been a highlight. The icing on the cake was becoming a mother herself in 2018 to a beautiful baby boy, surrounded by amazing midwives and family. Nathalie loves nothing more than finding hidden treasure in a good old fashion car boot sale, flea market or charity shop and on occasion, (much to her partner’s dismay) the side of the street! She can often be found hard at work on some interior upcycling project. Having her extended family on her doorstep means that Nathalie enjoys plenty of down time just relaxing, eating and laughing with her incredible family.

Meet Rachel - who runs the groups at The Clock House Rachel and her husband moved to East Dulwich whilst pregnant with their daughter Imogen, who was born after an induction at King’s College Hospital in November 2014. A bit of a neat freak, with a love of calm, Rachel has found the chaos of having “2 under 2” a real challenge! Both as a midwife and a mum, she has lots of tips for parents expecting baby number 2, or for those in the early weeks with a new baby. Rachel has worked as a community caseload and labour ward midwife, as well as in audit and quality improvement. Prior to becoming a midwife, she graduated from the University of Sussex with an MSc in Health Psychology, with a special interest in traumatic birth and women’s mental health after childbirth. Rachel is also a baby-wearing consultant, with classes and one-on-one consultations available at London Slings.
