FIRST TIME PARENTS

First-time parents courses run over six consecutive weekday evenings, at either The Lordship Pub (East Dulwich) or The Signal (Forest Hill). The course costs £270 per couple and includes: 6 weeks of 2 hour classes, useful links and written information, two social events during the course and one after and continued contact with Emily and Vicky for support.

WHAT DO OUR FIRST-TIME PARENTS COURSES OFFER?

  • Honest, evidence based, and realistic accounts from practising midwives with first hand experience. 

  • Intimate groups of up to eight couples.

  • Classes are interactive and dynamic, and provide plenty of opportunity for questions and  discussion.

  • Held in a private room in a pub for a relaxed atmosphere. 

  • 50/50 split of content covering labour and birth, and early days with a baby

  • Tailor made handbooks 'Path to Birth' and the '4th Trimester'.

  • Stay for supper following two of the classes.

  • Two of our previous couples return to tell their Birth Stories.

  • We provide useful links following each class, and unlimited email support from Emily and Vicky.

  •  Enable couples to feel confident in making informed choices for themselves and their new babies.


COURSE CONTENT

  • Week 1:  Signs and process of labour and birth. Where to give birth: home, birth centre, or hospital?

  • Week 2: Coping strategies and Pain relief. An Introduction to Hypnobirthing. Stay for Dinner.

  • Week 3: When birth doesn't go as planned, and the partner’s role. Two couples come back to tell their birth story!

  • Week 4: Early days with your baby, recovery time, looking after yourself and your baby, and life as a new parent.

  • Week 5: Common practicalities such as swaddling, bathing and nappy changing, and coping with a crying baby. 

  • Week 6: Feeding your baby: Breastfeeding - what to expect and how to do it. Bottle feeding - with expressed breast milk or formula. Stay for dinner! 


WHICH GROUP IS RIGHT FOR US?

You can join The Group at any time following your 12 week scan (when your due date is confirmed). We advise that you join a group where the last date session is at least 3 weeks before your baby's due date. If you are not sure which course to choose, then contact us and we will be happy to advise you.
